Home of the Louisiana Political Museum & Hall of Fame Birthplace of Three Governors & Home of the Louisiana Forest Festival. Both Winnfield and Winn Parish were namesakes for Walter O. Winn, attorney and state legislator in the early 1800's. In the early 1850's businessman Morris Bernstrin built a store at a crossroad named Winnfield, later to become the parish seat.  THE OLD L&A DEPOT The Louisiana Political Museum & Hall of Fame is located inside the old Louisiana and Arkansas Depot circa 1908. the depot was moved to its present location in 1988 and renovated to house the Winn Parish Museum, the La. Forestry Museum, and the La. Political Museum & Hall of Fame. The museum opened in August of 1993 on the anniversary of Huey P. Long's 100th Birthday. The primary display area of the museum is housed in the baggage and freight area of the old depot. The museum has accumulated over 30,000 artifacts and memorabilia relating to politicians and politics in La. There are life sized mannequins of the two famous brothers, Huey and Earl Long. Frequently you can hear recordings of the speeches made by both men being played as visitors look back into the political past of Winnfield. Much of what is on display has been donated to the museum by the inductees into the Hall of Fame or by their own families. The inductees into the Hall of Fame are selected by a state-wide panel of political historians and writers. Each of the Inductees have their own display with a caricature drawn by famed political cartoonist Pap Dean, who is also a member of the Hall of Fame. The La. Forestry Museum contains artifacts from the various aspects of the forest industry throughout the state. Included are a large number of photographs, a Gum Naval Store display, a model 52 Poulan two-man chainsaw, as well as other items. The Winn Parish Museum houses numerous historical photographs and items that depict the life and times of the people of Winn Parish. The exhibits are continuously changed to depict the various communities in our surrounding area.
